It started with a tease on social media on Thursday and finished with a bang on Friday morning as Kilkenny’s Robert Grace announced details (today) of his second studio album.
My Father’s Son, the follow-up to 2024’s Happy Sad Songs, is due for release on 6 November. His new single, if you were gone, the second with his father Bob, was released last Friday (5 June).

“So incredibly proud of this project”, the Graignamanagh native said via Instagram on Friday morning.
“It’s about navigating struggle, leaning on the ones who love you, and finding happiness where you can. It’s about the family that’s been there through every high and low. From my parents to my children, my wife to my siblings, aunties, uncles, and cousins, they’re all here, their voices woven into these songs.”
Free from his Columbia Records Germany (Sony) deal, the record was made “entirely on my own terms in my studio. No label, no big money. Just honest music made with the people I love.”
Anthem Vinyl are producing the vinyl copies, with pre-orders available in racing green, a limited-edition African violet, along with a custom yellow and black splatter Spindizzy version available for sale on the Dublin store’s website here.
Vinyl pre-orders are €28-30 plus shipping.

On the live side, next up on the local front is a sold-out show at Kilkenny’s Set Theatre on Saturday next (20 June). If you were lucky enough to score tickets, keep your eyes peeled for some new merch available at the latest run of live shows.
Ahead of that, it’s a sold-out show at Dublin’s Academy 2 this weekend, with a show at Wavelength (Cork) on 27 June.
