If you missed setting a reminder on your phone for the sale of tickets for The Coronas in Kilkenny this September, you missed out.
The trio are embarking on an intimate venue tour around the country, road-testing new material in an acoustic setting (along with some favourites) ahead of the release of their next studio album. Far from arenas, festival stages and other large venues, the run of shows in early autumn is fully seated and slated for some of the country’s nicest rooms.
Originally booked for a five-show run in Waterford (Theatre Royal, 22 August), Kilkenny (Set Theatre, 5 September), Guildhall (Derry, 19 September), Glór (Ennis, 25 September) and The Dean Crowe Theatre (Athlone, 2 October), the band will now play extra dates at each of the venues on the tour.
Tickets (€44 plus booking fee) for the first round of shows went on sale at 10am this morning, with Set Theatre experiencing massive demand and all tickets gone in seven minutes or less.
A second night was announced for the same venue on Sunday 6 September just after midday; those tickets sold out by lunchtime.
What’s rare is wonderful, and for a reduced capacity show in one of the best live music spaces in Ireland, Kilkenny fans are certainly in for a treat over the first weekend in September this year.
