October is Irish Music Month on KCLR – that much we already know.
On Friday, the local radio station for Kilkenny and Carlow announced their five finalists in the search for a new Local Hero as part of Irish Music Month.
The competition, being run by the station alongside the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI), Independent Broadcasters of Ireland (IBI), Hot Press and XL Retail, will see one finalist from each of 25 different independent radio stations around the country battle it out for the national local hero crown.
With it, comes a €5,000 prize, plus hundreds of plays on radio stations the length and breadth of the country, musical equipment, a single release, ad campaigns and much more besides.
For making the final five, each of the acts selected by KCLR will receive €700 , with a public vote now set to help decide who goes on to the national final.
Who’s in the running?
Of the five acts selected, four are from Kilkenny. Carlow’s Exiles were the fifth and final act to be announced on Friday with local acts The Screws, Davey Long, Elise and Chemical Addiction completing the lineup.
A public vote opened at 4pm on Friday and continues through to midnight on Tuesday, with KCLR’s winner being announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Over the course of the past week, each of the five finalists were brought to KCLR studios for an interview and recording session, all of which can be heard below.
With five quality acts and songs pitched, it’s a tough one to call but make sure to have your say before midnight on Tuesday.
