It’s been a busy few weeks for visiting and local acts in Kilkenny with Cleere’s and Set Theatre playing host to around two-dozen acts over the past fortnight, all as part of an online concert series for each venue.
Working along with the Live Music Collective, both venues have been able to avail of funding recently from the from the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.
At a time when venues are closed with no sign of live music returning until possibly spring/summer 2021, the funding and support is most welcome – both for the venues and the artists involved.
Per Set, last weekend saw Aoife Nessa Frances and Glasshouse Ensemble ‘both create something so beautiful and timeless’. This week, they’re shooting Seamus Fogarty, Somebody’s Child, David Kitt, Niamh Regan and RSAG for a reimagining of live shows. Also in the mix are Peter Broderick, Adrian Crowley, Brian Deady, Christian Cohle and Soda Blonde (nee Little Green Cars).
The live series is being filmed and edited by Bearfoot Productions and Geppetto (Paul Mahon) with Thomas Donohoe (sound) and Dan Pearson (lights).
A full release schedule should be available soon but the first outing, Aoife Nessa Frances, will go live on Christmas night, 25 December at 8pm via the Set YouTube channel.
