You go for months and months without seeing a Kilkenny act live, then along come ten at once.
Marble City Sounds – long since sold out – takes place this weekend at Ballykeeffe Amphitheatre, the latest in the Crossroads Recording Studios series of gigs at Kilkenny’s outdoor venue.
It’s a one-day event featuring acoustic acts and bands that have been dormant since the Covid-19 pandemic began. Those who managed to scoop up tickets in recent weeks are in for a treat.
On the acoustic side, you’ve got young Bill Hayes, Kairen Caine, Sola, Elise, Gary O’Neill and Ali Comerford, the latter launching her debut album Knots at the same venue last month.
On the band front, local favourites The Barflies will be taking to the stage alongside Reboot, Dead Alien Tourist and Nervetraps.
While some acts have managed to get back in front of audiences this summer, others haven’t had that opportunity in 18 months or more, so expect some good energy this weekend.
Gates open at the venue at 1pm with the first of the acoustic acts on stage from 2pm.
If you’re heading along, as with the nature of shows at Ballykeeffe Amphitheatre, it’s advised to dress for the weather and don’t be afraid to bring a picnic as services are still limited on site.
