If you’ve been waiting for brochures for this year’s Kilkenny Roots Festival to land before deciding what to spring for, you could be out of luck.
The 21st Kilkenny Roots Festival has its official launch tonight at the Smithwick’s Experience and already there’s a good helping of shows sold out.
Granted, you won’t be without options – there’s around 90 shows this year and the majority of those are free. For the premium artists on the bill, time is ticket to get those sought-after tickets.
It starts with lunch
Two of the finest shows at the festival year after year are the lunchtime shows at Cleere’s on the Saturday and Sunday.
The honour this year for those shows go to Michael Nau (Saturday) and Deep Dark Woods (Sunday). Some tickets are left for Michael Nau, but you’re out of luck for the Sunday sermon with Deep Dark Woods.
Even before the lunchtime gigs, the Friday night kicks off at 7.30pm with a special show lead by Seamus Fogarty in honour of the late Willie Meighan. Again, it’s a sell out. Looking for Peter Oren on Monday in The Pumphouse? Go again.
