Looking for gigs in Kilkenny in April? We’ve got you sorted.
We’ve another month or so to go to this year’s Kilkenny Roots Festival, but between here and then, there’s plenty to soak up.
There’s new singles to mark, new albums to celebrate and plenty of tunes to get your head around. Here’s five picks to start you off.
5 Gigs in Kilkenny in April
1. Brian Deady & Band
Corkonian Brian Deady, he behind Clap Both My Hands, is heading back to Kilkenny this month. His current single Eloise is a real peach. No stranger to the Marble City (he loves the place), he can be found with band at Set on Friday 6 April. Tickets €18.50 including booking fee, doors 8pm.

2. Shane Joyce (Album Launch)
Shane Joyce (The Midnight Union Band) marks the launch of his debut solo album, The Sadness of King Joyce, with a full show at Cleere’s. Support on the night from Sola. With a successful Fundit campaign behind him, the album gets an official release on 9 April before the show at Cleere’s on Friday 13 April.
3. The Stunning
This one is well sold out. I caught them at a special full band show in KCLR earlier this month, a week before releasing Twice Around The World. The new album is out, it hit the top of the iTunes charts, their shows this tour have been rammed and the band are on flying form. Saturday 14 April marks their return to Kilkenny, and to Set, and I hazard it won’t be their last. If you’ve got tickets for it, you’re in for a real treat.

4. Ciaran Lavery
Also on his way to Set this month is Ciaran Lavery on Wednesday 18 April. New single 13 is out now, but when he hits Kilkenny he’s also have new album Sweet Decay in tow. It’s a midweek show with tickets only €11. He’ll also have special guests Ailbhe Reddy and Tom Joshua in support. Catch him in Kilkenny before he plays Whelan’s (Dublin) and Monroe’s (Galway) that weekend.
5. Aslan
Aslan hit The Hub for a standing show only on 20 April as part of the 30th anniversary tour for Feel No Show. The tour plan was to dust the cobwebs off some Aslan classic. After all, this is the album that gave us the likes of This Is, Pretty Thing and Down On Me.
