Indie singer-songwriter Kate Dineen (also of The Crayon Set parish) is bound for The Hole In The Wall in Kilkenny this Friday night.
Hailing from Kerry but firmly installed in Dublin, Kate was surrounded by music from a young age and would often sit in the back seat of her family’s car and read her father’s CD insert sleeves front to back so that she could memorise the lyrics.
At age 14 Kate started learning guitar, learning her favourite songs, which she cites as a freeing experience. Then, at 16, as a shy teenager, she decided to challenge herself and sign up for vocal lessons. Kate immediately felt connected to the voice as an instrument she could control. On a whim, she entered a contest and winning first, Kate knew this could be her path.
Flash forward to 2023 and Dineen is spending her days writing songs about time, tribulations and trivial affairs for the crocheters, gardeners and sea-swimmers of this world. If you’ve not come across her on the sessions circuit, you may well have bumped into her on Instagram too. Friday’s show isn’t her first at The Hole In The Wall and surely won’t be her last in Kilkenny either, having stopped off with The Crayon Set last August in Cleere’s.
Fresh from the music trail as part of the Dumlinia Festival in Cavan this past weekend, you’ll find Dineen going live at The Hole In The Wall this Friday at 9pm. Support comes by way of The Lion Colhoun, tickets €10 on the door.
