It’s the news Kilkenny Roots Festival fans have been waiting a long time for.
Wednesday this week saw festival organisers confirm the 2022 Kilkenny Roots outing will go ahead in its traditional May bank holiday weekend slot.
Kilkenny Roots Festival 2022 will open on 29 April and close on Monday 2 May.
Having missed the 2020 and 2021 editions due to a certain global pandemic, the news comes as a massive boost to the local gig scene and in particular, those who’ve been making the annual pilgrimage to Kilkenny from far-flung places.
In a short statement, organisers thanked Smithwick’s for their continued support of the festival.
“We are delighted to formally announce dates for Kilkenny Roots 2022. Special thanks to our main sponsor, Smithwicks. It would not be possible without their ongoing support.”
Smithwick’s involvement in the festival comes in a busy week for Diageo, the company announcing earlier this week that the Smithwick’s Experience is also set to reopen in 2022.
