You’ve not seen Kilkenny like this.
You might not have even heard tunes on this level unless you’ve been following the work of Kilkenny’s Paul Mahon of late, aka Tanoki.
Let Go is a follow up to Loading, released earlier this year, and marks the second track release from his forthcoming album File New.
Packing all the visual punch that has become a trademark of Mahon’s video work, and layered for a second time with vocals from Farah Elle (also with her own debut, Fatima, on the way), do yourself a favour for this release day – get the video up on as big a screen as you can, and get those headphones wrapped around your ears.
The Thomastown-based producer/director/visual artist/filmmaker (it’s a long list of credits) stepped out of the musical shadows and into the light with the release of Loading in February to great acclaim, then again blending real and synthetic instruments as “a commentary on what we’re doing with technology and how it’s intersecting with our lives”.
Long may the thread continue.
Having lent his visuals to live shows for RSAG over the years, you can be sure when it comes time to take to the stage, the Tanoki experience will be an AV feast.
Let Go features Mahon on guitar, keys, bass, synth and overall arrangement, alongside having produced, recorded and mixed the track while shooting and editing the accompanying video. Farah Elle joins on keys / vocals / lyrics. Let Go was mastered by Darragh Nolan.
