Get Pumped with South

Tonight see’s local rock/fusion outfit South take to the stage upstairs in the Pumphouse.

Entry is free with a 10.30pm kickoff. Their CD ‘Insula’ will be available for anyone who wants it. There will also be free copies of The Lions Mane ‘Strands’ to grab for anyone interested.

Rumor has it that there will be a special treat for any Tool fans interested in venturing out.

The Making Of Insula, Episode One

Last year’s winners of the Hype Entertainment Battle Of The Bands, South, are set to release their debut album Insula in a few weeks. During the recording process, Ross Costigan was behind the scenes with the band documenting the process of certain tracks, which have been put together in The Making Of Insula. The band are releasing the footage in episode form in the build up to the album release, the first episode having gone live today.

Once you check out the video, take a listen to South on MySpace. They’ve just announced initial dates for their album tour, starting in Kilkenny on July 25th in Cleere’s before moving on to Whelan’s in Dublin on July 31st and around the country from there. If you want to get involved, bring the band to your town, or book them for your venue, contact My Music.

South – ‘The Making Of Insula’ (Teaser Trailer & Poster)

Insula

Last year’s Hype Entertainment Battle of the Bands winners, South, have spent recent weeks in the studio; recording their debut album ‘Insula’ which is due out this Summer.

I had the pleasure of joining the progressive grunge rockers in the Mill Studio, as they recorded 12 tracks for the upcoming album; it was an awesome chance to get a sneak preview of things to come.

The entire recording process was captured on two video cameras and hundreds of photos.

Now, as the recording process comes to a close, South gave me the green light to upload the teaser trailer for ‘The Making Of Insula‘ along with a teaser poster , both of which you’ll now find on the South MySpace and Bebo Profile.

The lads are also encouraging fans to subscribe to their blog for updates on the release of ‘Insula’, gig dates, photos and more videos… Coming Soon.

Behind The Scenes With South

Between ourselves here at Kilkenny Music, we sponsor a number of things over the course of the year. Ross, under Oss237 Photography, provided a photo package for the winning act at last year’s Battle Of The Bands. South were the winners and they’ve recently cashed in on their prize, teaming up with Ross for a photoshoot out at the Mill Studios on the outskirts of Kilkenny.

In this clip you get to go behind the scenes on the shoot, see the making of some of the images the band will be using for their upcoming CD release, web site and those ferried to the press. Days like these aren’t just available as prizes though. Having also completed a recent photoshoot with local act Mata Hari, acts interested in booking a photoshoot should contact ourselves here at KilkennyMusic.com or get in touch by emailing hello [at] kilkennymusic.com.

Jeff Lang Returning In May

Jeff Lang (Live at Barry's, Grange, Co. Sligo. Photo by Ross Costigan)

Myself (Ken) and Ross are working with Jeff Lang again this summer, the Australian legend returning to Ireland in May for a short six-date tour before coming back on an extended run later this year. While we’ve plenty of details to come, we can confirm that he’ll be playing Kilkenny and you’ll be able to catch him in Cleere’s Theatre on Friday May 15th.

Last year’s gig was a packed house affair in Cleere’s Theatre and this year should produce something similar. Keep an eye out next week for full details of the tour as well as CD and ticket giveaways coming via Twitter.

Vultures Episode 4 is Online Now!

Vultures episode 4: ‘The Case Of The Poisoned Dates‘ premieres online today and is free to watch over on www.vulturespi.com.

The fourth installment in the locally produced detective comedy series sees the arrival of a Transition Year student in the offices of V.P.I. for work experience. Janine Drew is brash, ambitious and in most social circles she’d be commonly referred to as a ‘chav.’

Janine’s arrival coincides with a series of errant romantic entanglements that degenerate into a potential powder keg of social embarrassment, messy divorce cases and extreme violence. And all the while the spectre of the Pinkertons looms….

You can now watch ‘The Case Of The Poisoned Dates‘ along with all previous episodes on www.vulturespi.com or you can subscribe to Vultures through iTunes.

The fourth episode in the detective comic series sees the arrival of TY student, Janine Drew, in the V.P.I. office for work experience. Played by Suzanne O’Brien, Janine is brash, ambitious and has the distinct features of what is commonly known as a ‘chav.’

They are joined by a familiar supporting cast of characters; Inspector Leeson (Paul Young), Isabelle Vultour (Liadain Kaminska), Tom Moriarty (Stephen Colfer), Jack Street (Ross Costigan), Sarah Black (Niamh Moroney) and a few new faces.
