One Take Sessions: in 6 weeks, 3 days, 12 hours, 7 minutes

So, What Did You Think Of Motorhead?

November 11, 2009 by Ken McGuire

LemmyMotorhead played The Olympia in Dublin last weekend and so far we’ve heard some good reports, some mixed reports and finally, got this letter in the mail today from a disappointed Kilkenny resident.

If you were at the Motorhead gig, what did you think?

Here’s the letter…

Dear Sir/Madam,
I attended the Motörhead concert you organized last Sunday in the Olympia Theatre.
I felt it was one of the least professional gigs I have ever attended. Lemmy was in no condition to play. He tried really hard but he felt he wasn’t fit from the very beginning. After the second song he decided to leave it and it was very clear there was no way the gig could continue.

After that, a series of unbelievable events happened. We were tried to be entertained by the other members of Motörhead. As if we were school kids on a clown function: a guitar rant and a 20 minute drum solo were in the menu. In the meantime Lemmy was talked back to sing. It was appalling to see him try and sing while he was in absolute pain.
That, for me, finished it. They went on to sing what I suppose would be safe enough so you wouldn’t have to get people their money back. and just finish after that.

It was the most unprofessional act I’ve seen and I believe it wasn’t coming from the band, who I believe was trying to please as much as possible everyone: audience, promoters…
But I strongly believe MCD should have stopped the gig the moment you could see the quality of the concert wasn’t going to be what should be expected from an organization of your caliber.

I really hope this situation never arises again.

Yours,

We’ve withheld the name, address and phone number of the gig goer but from what we’re aware, mails have also been sent to national and local media to highlight the concern following the gig, as well as the gig’s promoter. I’ve been to great gigs and some dour ones, but it would take a lot for me to put pen to paper or the fingers to the keyboard and make a documented complaint about a gig. Have your say in the comments below, let us know what you think, or if you were going to the gig from Kilkenny as well, how did it go for you?
