Recap The Rhythm & Roots Festival

THE RHYTHM and Roots Festival for 2011 is done and dusted but the memory will live on a little longer this year thanks to this snazzy highlights video filmed and edited by local filmmaker Darragh Byrne over the weekend. I don’t know if you got to see anything over the festival but highlight for this year (and certainly a standout when looking back at other years of the festival) had to be John Grant’s performance at the Watergate Theatre on the Sunday night.

Congratulations to John Cleere and all involved in pulling the festival together. The countdown is on to next year hopefully we’ll see more of the same and beyond.

Economic recession? Not when there’s serious craic and music to be had in Kilkenny on a May Bank Holiday!

James Walbourne meets The River Valley Band

The funds are being raised for Rockfall again tonight as The River Valley Band join forces with James Walbourne (he of The Pretenders / The Pogues). It’s a 9pm kick off, tickets €10 and all proceeds from tonight are going to the O’Neill Centre here in Kilkenny.

Green Spheres: Jape Live In Kytelers

DAY TWO of the Heinken Green Spheres weekend in Kilkenny and there’s one show to catch before the big one in Langtons tomorrow night. With doors opening for 8pm tonight, you can catch Jape, live in Kytelers on Kieran Street. Just as with Left Bank last night, there will be no entry charge to the gig but tickets are given out on a first-come-first-served basis.

To whet your appetite for the gig, check out the video above for I Was A Man. Tonight’s show is over 18s only, ID may be required at the venue. Don’t forget too that (well, as if you could forget) 2manydjs take to the stage in Langtons tomorrow night with doors opening there for 9pm. Judging by the emails we’ve been getting over the weekend, there’s a few people stuck for tickets. If you got tickets in the online draw and now can’t or won’t make the show, let us know here or on Facebook, there’s sure to be someone who will make use of that pass to the gig!

Alex Metric Sabotage, Hits Kilkenny

Fresh from Oxegen’s Red Bull stage, Alex Metric brings his Sabotage remix and so much more to Kilkenny this weekend. Matt The Millers is the venue, 11pm tomorrow night (Friday) is the kick off and it’s free. BUT – it’s free on a very much first-come-first-served basis for Alex Metric lands in Kilkenny as part of the Heineken Green Spheres blitz hitting Kilkenny this weekend.

Also up tomorrow night are Delorentos, with entry limited to the first 300 hitting Left Bank with doors opening at 8pm.

The music continues on Saturday night with Jape in Kytelers before 2manydjs tear the roof off Langtons on Sunday night. Thank God it’s a bank holiday.

O Emperor Video Interview (From Oxegen)

Vodafone Ireland managed a few exclusive interviews at Oxegen last weekend, including this one with O Emperor. Their VIP reporter for the weekend was Gillian Deegan. We’re slowly putting things in place ourselves for a new series of video interviews and podcasts on KilkennyMusic.com. We’ll even provide the tea and biscuits.

O Emperor have one of the headline slots at this year’s Spraoi Festival in Waterford, taking place over the August Bank Holiday weekend. They’re on stage on the 30th around 10pm, check the O Emperor MySpace for more.
