Playlist Mix Returns February 1st

The Playlist Mix Podcast, off the air since late November, returns after a lengthy Christmas break for it’s 2009 run. Already with 43 shows to date, the podcast returns to the web this coming Sunday night, a change from the traditional Tuesday night airing.

Each week you get six new international podsafe acts for your listening pleasure, brought together in a half-hour podcast. The Playlist Mix, hosted by KilkennyMusic.com’s Ken McGuire, won Best Podcaster at the 2008 Irish Web Awards last October.

The first show for 2009, available from this coming Sunday evening, will feature a selection of Irish and Canadian acts and will be available via PlaylistMix.com. Twitter users can now subscribe to @playlistmix and find out what’s going on in and around each show.

For those asking – no, we haven’t set the date yet for the return of the Sound System Podcast but I would say it’s fairly safe that it won’t return in February given everything that’s going on in other projects. We’ll get there yet though…

No Podcast This Week

Just a reminder that there’s no Sound System Podcast this week. Show 65 is the last podcast until the first week of November and you can listen to it on the KilkennyMusic.com homepage, via SoundSystemPodcast.com or by playing the track below.

Sound System 65 Released

The 65th Sound System Podcast was released earlier this week and it’s gonna have to quench your thirst until December!

Likewise with the Playlist Mix, another podcast I do, the Sound System Podcast is going to take a two week break as I’m (Ken) off for two weeks. With production building up around Vultures for Ross, Daw in the studio, Mickey in college and myself out of the country it seems high time to take an actual planned break, for two weeks, with the podcast set to return on Wednesday December 3rd.

While it’s short and snappy there’s also music from Halves, House Of Cosy Cushions (both of whom play Kilkenny this weekend), the new single from Heritage Centre and a new release (long overdue a podcast play) from 6 Feet Or Above Ground.

So, no Ross in this week’s podcast, just a half hour dose of Ken along with the afore mentioned music. The new Heritage Centre single is out December 5th so we should have some more details on the next podcast.

As we won’t be back until December, enjoy this one while it lasts.

Sound System Podcast 65 On The Way

The 65th Sound System Podcast is on the way. A day later than usual, the podcast will surface online around 10pm tonight and it looks like it’s a break for the podcast following tonight until the first week of December, but more on that later.

In the mean time, keep an eye out for the next show on KilkennyMusic.com later tonight (it’s currently bouncing itself happily out of ProTools).

Sound System Podcast 64 – Finally Here

We’re back, and we’re a week late. We know it, and we’re sorry. But we’ve been busy (notice it’s been a bit quiet around the site this week!)

Juggling a few theatre things, a few music things and hectic work schedules in and out of the studio and office, we’ve managed to sit down and finally record the 64th Sound System Podcast. And yes, it’s a One Take Sessions special.

As such, you’re treated to tracks from Ginosko, Little Black Wren and a double helping of Kildare’s Chayka.

We’ll be putting a shape on things online tomorrow with plenty of news updates to come but in the mean time, check out the podcast. We’ve a look back to War Of The Worlds, upcoming gigs, some interesting facts on the Kama Sutra, you’ll find out what Tokyo Challenge really is, get the lowdown on some Vultures updates and plenty more.

You can download the podcast here (it’s free) or listen below. Alternatively stop by SoundSystemPodcast.com.

Sound System 64 – Get Your Comments In

The 64th Sound System Podcast should be recording tonight this coming Friday around the 7pm mark (provided we’re not snowed in – seriously, it’s that cold). If you want to have your say, get your comments in, plug an upcoming gig or event in Kilkenny or anywhere else in Ireland then get emailing to podcast@kilkennymusic.com and we’ll look after the rest.

Deadline for submissions is 7pm today 3pm on Friday.

63rd Sound System Podcast Arrives

The 63rd Sound System Podcast has touched down at KilkennyMusic.com, bringing with it music from Ian Whitty & The Exchange (featured as VOTD earlier this week), Enda Reilly, For Enemies Of Reason and Pot Hole.

There’s also the usual banter and chat, a look at upcoming gigs, Rockfall this weekend, band news where we’ve got it and loads more.

Check it out over at SoundSystemPodcast.com or listen below.

Playlist Mix Wins At 2008 Irish Web Awards

We came, we saw, we didn’t win the Best Music Site category (that award went to State Magazine – fair play to Nialler, Phil & co.) at the 2008 Irish Web Awards.

However, one trophy did make its way back to Kilkenny as the Playlist Mix Podcast won Best Podcaster on the night.

Needless to say there was some level of surprise, shock, delight and a little more surprise but it’s great to get acknowledged for the work you’re doing, when you least expect it. Hopefully we’ll see KilkennyMusic.com back there again at the Irish Blog Awards (different ceremony) in Cork next February.

For more on the night, check out my own blog here or listen to the Playlist Mix here. (download this week’s show).

At Last – Sound System Podcast 61

We’re back. At long bloody last. Seriously. We’re two days late with the podcast show, it’s been sitting in ProTools since Wednesday evening but thanks largely in part to

  1. Forgetting it was a One Take Sessions special and subsequently forgetting to pick up the OTS tracks and
  2. Starting work on The War of the Worlds with The Devious Theatre Company.

However, we still say better late than never and so two days later than usual we present the 61st Sound System Podcast. There are indeed four tracks from last week’s One Take Sessions featuring Jimi Cullen, Nick Day, Michael Whelan and Ian Doyle while there’s plenty of chatter about a multitude of things, including settling scores with Messrs Doyle and Byrne at the 2008 Moviestar.ie Irish Web Awards taking place tomorrow night (Saturday) in Dublin.

We’ll be there as we’ve found ourselves nominated in the ‘Best Music’ category (wooooo!) so myself and Ross are making the trip up for the session, pissup, awards ceremony.

Enjoy :)

Podcast 61 Delayed – Online Today

We’re sorry about the delay (or I’m sorry about the delay), but we’ll have the 61st Sound System Podcast online later today.

The good thing is it was actually recorded at the usual time on Wednesday evening but between jobs and a late night in the studio last night (recording until post 3am) it hasn’t made to bounce yet. So, given the run of the day it will likely be this evening when the podcast goes live.

Better late than never!

Keep an eye on SoundSystemPodcast.com and check back in during the day for the release announcement.
